The Challenge
8 year old Paul, has a degenerative brain disease causing epileptic fits. Mum was exhausted as she was sleeping next to him at night to help if he had a seizure. She wanted an epilepsy alarm so she could rest herself & have quality time with her son.
The Change
The OT identified the nature of the epilepsy and sourced a suitable wearable device that would send a message to Mum and alert her via a phone (app) notification if Paul were to have a seizure.
The Impact
Mum slept better in her own room so was more rested. The epilepsy monitor identified increased frequency of seizures so this info was shared with the GP who changed medication to be more effective. The family described the impact as life changing.
